Oct.27\\\\\\\'06 With the pre-rut starting to heat up,I set an observation stand away from the main deer travel routes, hoping to catch a look at some of the muture bucks as they moved in from surrounding proporties to harass the doe\\\\\\\'s which feed regularly accross our farms pastures to get to the agriculture fields. Around 5pm I looked to the far corner of the pasture to see a (Monster Buck was my first thought),and luck would have it he was heading towards the corner I was in. With 200 yards between myself, and the Buck at the start my mind start racing as the adrenilan kicked in. Will he continue his coarse, should I call, which side will he come in on, center the peep, and a dozen others. He did continue to my corner, but this was to be just an observation stand with out much concern about being able to shoot clearly around me(BIG Mistake). With the stand facing into the woods, I had to turn to my left to watch his advance.I\\\\\\\'m set up OK if he enters to the left, but at the last second he heads to my right, and due to him quartering at me I have no choice, but to take my eyes off him, and turn around. As I get turned I see there is only a small shooting lane, and as I swing my bow towards the lane it\\\\\\\'s pressed against the tree, and my safety harness is stretched tight. Today though luck is on my side as the Buck as if on que stops in my lane only yards from safety. Oh by the way 10/27 is my birthday my most memorable one so far. |
