Back from a five day vacation in Florida! It sure did hurt to hear of Cortland getting eight inches of snow while I was in shorts and a t-shirt.

I completed two grand slams on this trip! I hunted on a cattle ranch just north of Okeechobee. Had a great hunt there. I took a 19-1/2lb longbeard with a 10-1/2\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\" beard, and 1-1/4 & 1-3/16\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\" spurs. He is going to the taxidermist. I also took a 13lb jake with 5-1/2 beard to complete my second slam. Not much gobbling the first two days.

I was chasing a longbeard with huge spurs, but a broken beard. the gobbler would not leave these three hens that just led him around. The second night I flushed out the three hens in a field and sent them way out to the other side of the swamp. That took them out of the equation for the next morning. Next morning 4 birds gobbling, a bunch of jakes, and only two other hens in the group. Flew down early, and the one I shot came right in, and I put him down just minutes after daylight. Never saw the bad boy that day, or the rest of my stay down there. I saw the huge beard just hanging on the one I shot, and that would due just fine. Thanks to my holosight I was able to make a off-hand shot, as the the bird circled in from my right.

I went out an hour later, and took a wild boar, and I will have some good meat coming from that!
